Always wondered what afro dance really is? Well here we go, it’s time for afro 101. So where does it come from?
Afro dance comes from the diverse cultures of Africa. Afro as a dance style is as diverse as the continent itself, reflecting the the many ethnic groups, languages, and customs found across Africa.
What to expect in an afro class:

Express Yourself: Afro dance is all about self-expression. Whether you’re telling a story through your movements or just letting loose, there’s no judgment—just pure, unadulterated freedom on the dance floor.

High Energy: Be prepared to break a sweat and elevate your heart rate. Afro dance is a full-body workout.

Community Feels: Join a tribe of dancers who are as passionate about the culture and movement as you are. Afro dance classes are not just about learning steps; they’re about building connections

You can check out our afro classes on our youtube here.

Good news is… there are some foundation moves (like any style) that you can learn to add to your repertoire. Those of you who take class will know all about signal the plane, the pouncing cat, legwork, rotation and so many more. If you wanna learn those basics then our beginner afro/hip hop class in Reading (8-9pm Wednesdays) or our open class in Victoria London (9-10pm Wednesdays) is the place for you. If you wanna challenge yourself and learn one of a kind afro choreo then our Tuesday 7-8pm Afro/Hip Hop class is where you wanna train. You can check out our full timetable here: THE ARMY DC TIMETABLE
Or you can join our upcoming workshop on Sunday 11th February for 3 hours of afro training – the perfect intro to the style! To book onto our afro workshop all you need to do is sign up here: DLONZE AFRO WORKSHOP
