Dont be afraid to take that risk…
People like to stick to the style they know, because they KNOW that they are good at it. Let’s face it, it’s a comfort blanket doing something that you know you can kill it in every week. It’s an easy option doing a dance style that you KNOW that you are good at. We are ALL the same. Trust me, we all like to do things that are easy. Challenges stress us out, make us feel like we can’t do it, make us feel more uncomfortable and out of place, unconfident, etc.
But…It’s the challenges that make us the better dancers, it’s the challenges that can completely flip our lives around, trust me on this one.
You have to get out of your own head. You wont believe the amount of people that stop attending the classes that challenge them, because they know they wont be the best in the room, or (dare I say it) they decide to sit out due to ‘injury’ or ‘feeling sick’. You have to break through that barrier and TAKE THE RISK. Especially if you want to take dance to the next level.
How the hell are you going to grow if you stay in your comfort zone?!
The best dancers improve the quickest if they try every single style. Even if you know your not the most feminine and your a hip hop head, its all the more reason to sign up to that god damn heels class! Don’t restrict yourself in the dance industry. You have to try every style to know what your THING is. You never know, heels might be your thing, you just done know it yet.
My advice to you is..

  • Sign up to the class that you are MOST worried about going to
  • Attend the extra workshops that are NOT your style
  • Dont’ be afriad to step out of your comfort

If I hadn’t of quit Microsoft all those years ago, I wouldn’t be where I am today, and THE ARMY DC would not exist.
So TAKE THAT RISK and go to that dance class, it might be the best thing you ever do.
