Mindset is everything!
Having the right mindset will help you to believe in yourself, feel more confident, handle constructive criticism better and create a hunger to want to improve. Which is a win win for you as ultimately these are all things that will help you become a better dancer.
Don’t get me wrong, working on your mindset doesn’t come instantly. It’s a process but a process I believe everyone can do and one that you won’t regret!
You might be thinking but Beckie, I am fine, my mindset is great but sometimes you do not realise you have a *fixed* mindset. What I mean by this is that, without realising you might be limiting yourself. For example, you may know you’re a good dancer but you might not believe you can become a GREAT dancer, so then you’ll hold yourself back from practising more or trying as hard in class, which will result in you taking longer to improve or not improving at all and not reaching your FULL potential.
I want you to really think about it for a few minutes, is there a class that you like the look of but you keep telling yourself you are not good enough? Or, are you always comparing yourself to others in the class? By doing this, immediately you are competing against the others and focusing your energy into the wrong place. Instead, you should be focusing that energy into yourself and changing your mindset into a more positive one!! One that allows you to be more open to improvement and believing you are good and you’re only going to get better!!
And I am only saying this because I believe in you! I really can notice the difference in students who have a more positive mindset and let me tell you now it really pays off in the long run!
